What reason am I talking about?

When you want to hide your number to call someone on your phone.

This isn’t just applicable to iphone but also on android phone and feature phones. If you are using a Samsung phone you will come across it on the phone settings where you will see the option to show your caller if or probably hide your caller ID.

In a situation whereby your network service provider doesn’t support iphone show my caller id, then it means that what will be displayed during call will be the name the recipient used in saving your number on it’s cellphone.

Once caller ID is enabled on both iphone and android phone and if you call someone your name will be displayed on the recipient phone and if the recipient didn’t save your name on his or her phone, your phone number will be displayed instead.

However, if you disabled show my caller id on your iPhone and call someone on your phone, it will display as a private number on the recipient phone.

What does my caller id show?

Your caller ID shows the name that is linked with the sim card and the phone number.

Thar is only if your network service provider supports the caller ID feature on iphone or even on android phone.

Now if they don’t support the caller id feature, what your caller ID will show will be the name the recipient used in saving your phone number. If the recipient doesn’t have your phone number saved on his or her mobile phone, then only your number will be displayed as the caller id.

Whatever name you used when purchasing your sim card, that name will be your caller unless the recipient has your contact saved and your network provider doesn’t support the caller ID feature.

My Caller id shows wrong name

This usually happens when there is a previous owner for the phone number you’re using, and which the network provider is yet to update your name to the phone number.

For example, when making a call on your iPhone what people or recipients see is Johnson Peter and not your name.

This means that Johnson Peter was the previous owner of the sim card or probably the phone number and which the number is still linked with Peter’s name.

In this type of situation all you have to do is to contact your network service provider and request for your name to be updated with the sim number or they should remove the previous owner’s name from the phone number and add your name to it.

You can also do this by yourself though will require to get the process from your network provider.

It usually take 48 hours to 72 hours for the changes to reflect in your account, and which the caller id will now be your name.

This type of situation usually occur when a network service provider disconnect a sim card and if after few years nothing happened, they will assign the number to another new customer.

At the end of the day, the sim number will still bear the name of a previous owner.

It is left for you to make the necessary corrections and changes by contacting your network service provider and request for a sim card update or account update and you’re good to go.

Now tap on Show Caller ID and you will see three options which are;

If you select Network Default, then it will show the name and phone number you used when purchasing the sim card.

If you select Hide Number, it won’t show your name or phone number but rather will hide them and what will be displayed when calling someone will be a private call.

If you select Show Number, it will display the contact name the recipient used in saving your number on it’s cellphone. If the recipient didn’t save your number, then it will only display your phone number during outgoing call.

How to see no caller id

So far there’s no possible means to see a no caller id.

Once someone hide his or her number to call you on both android phone or the iPhone, you can’t detect or see the number.

If you’re annoyed with private number or no caller id calling your number, you can easily restrict them by blocking them off from your iPhone.

However, I wouldn’t recommend you doing this because you may receive an important call from a no caller ID person.

But if you don’t care about it and wants to block no caller id callers on your iPhone, get started by opening the settings app.

Once again scroll down to phone and open it.

Now look at the bottom and you will see where it states Silence Unknown Callers just like on the picture below.

Silence unknown caller

Kindly open the Silence Unknown Callers and turn it on.

The disclaimer says;

Calls from unknown numbers will be silenced, sent to voicemail and displayed on the Recents list.

Incoming calls will continue to ring from people in your

contacts, recent outgoing calls and Siri  Suggestions.

This literally means that incoming calls from caller id on your iPhone will not go through instead it will be move straight to the voicemail.

In a situation whereby you don’t have a voicemail in your iPhone, then the call will end immediately.

I did a test on two iPhones to confirm it, one has a voicemail while the other don’t. When enabled silence unknown callers and called the phone with an active voicemail, my call was redirected straight to voicemail.

I called the other iphone that has no active voicemail and it showed called busy and end immediately.

So this is what happens if you enable Silence Unknown Callers on your iPhone.
