Most iphone users prefers to use imessage to send imessages compared to sms text message.
This leads us to the question of the day.
What are the pros and cons of using imessage?
The main pros and cons of iMessage is that iMessage is very economical though it cannot be sent to all mobile platforms like android and Java.
However, iMessage has so many advantages compared to it’s advantageous.

1.1. iMessage is very economical
iMessage is very economical in the sense that it is free to use compared to sms text message that attracts charges from the network service provider.
You can use imessage to sent messages abroad which is very costly using sms text message.
As long as you have a free Wifi connection around you, iMessage is free to use. But if you don’t have a free Wi-Fi connection, then you will have to use a cellular datain order to send and recieve iMessages.
Remember that iMessage is free internationally.
1.2. There is a delivery report and read recipet on iMessage
On iphone, there are two types of text messaging, the sims text message and the iMessage.
The sms text message on iphone which is green in color doesn’t have a delivery report and read receipts, while the iMessage do have a delivery report and read receipt which makes it a lot easier to know if a sent message wars delivered to the recipient.
Also, if the recipient has read the text message.
For the fact that sms greent text on iphone doesn’t have a delivery report, i Find it quite difficult using it to send text message, instead i prefer to me my android use as it do have a delivery report feature.
You won’t have any issue with delivery repout and read receipts when using imessage.
This is one major pros of imessage.
1.3. Ability to edit a message
Since the release of ios 16 on iphone, you can edit a text message even if the message has been opened and read by the recipient.
Previously this feature wasn’t available on iMessage, thank to ios 16 messages got a lot better.
Below is what I’m talking about.
If you go ahead to edit the message, it will make amendment to both parties involved.
But remember, if five minute have passed after you sent the message and which the recipient has opened the message, you won’t be able to edit the message.
I.4. Being able to unsend a message
This is anothe great Pros of using imessage, being able to unsend a message.
Since the introduction of ios 16 on iphone, iMessage users now have the option to unsend a message on imessage. This is a great feature as many iphone users was always been looking for a means to usend a message on their iphone.
Right now, you can unsend an iMessage but before five minutes of sending the message.
After five minutes has passed you can’t unsend an imessage rather you will only see a delete option and which will only delete the message on your phone.

1.5. Send large files on imessage
Another great advantage of using imessage is the abilty to send large files like videos, photos, documents, and other files.
This is not possible if you are using sms text message to send the files.
You can only use mms to send short video clips and photos and that which is not possible using SMS. Being an instant messaging service, you can use imessage to send large files from your phone to another imessage user.
1.6. iMessage reaction
On imessage, you can react to a message and this has been added to android res chat message and other instant messaging apps like Whatsapp.
1.7. Location sharing
Using iMessage, you can share location with someone using iMessage on your iphone, ipad, or any other apple device.
Location sharing is made a lot easier when using imessage.
Now this feature is also available on whatsapp, android rcs chat message.
1.8. Sim card is not a must
If you want to send sms text message, sim card is a must as it make use of the cellular network service, but the case is different if you are using an imessage.
You can send and recieve iMessage without a sim card as long as you have a working Wi-Fi connection.
Cons of using iMessage
- iMessage is only available on apple devices.
- It may not entirely be secured if you have your iMessages saved to icloud.
1.1. iMessage is only available on apple devices
For the fact that imessage is only available on apple devices, you will only have the option of sending sms text messages to your friends and family not using imessage unless you will have to use the likes of whatsapp, facebook messenger, viber, signal, etc.
1.2. It may not entirely be secured if you have your iMessages saved to icloud.
Privacy protection is very important when it comes to doing some stuffs online and this includes social media apps and instant messaging apps and services like the iMessage.
By default, imessage is encrypted and secured, but when you have your imessages uploaded to icloud, one can’t really say if your iMessages is secured.
However, this shouldn’t discourage you from having your messages get backed up to icloud.
Is it better to use iMessage or text?
It is better to use imessage than using text because iMessage is very economical and has lots of good features than sms text messages.
When using imessage, you will know the message was delivered to the recipient as imessage has a delivery report which is lacking in sms text message on iphone.
iPhone sms text message has no delivery report which makes it quite difficult to know if a sent text message was delivered to the recipient’s phone.
Also, iMessage has a read receipt feature which lets a sender know if a recipient has opened and read a sent imessage on his phone.
However, this feature is lacking when using sms text message as only instant messaging has the read recapt feature.
What is the difference between sending a text message and iMessage?
The difference between sending a text message and iMessage is that text message the Cellular network service, while iMessage uses the internet to send and to recieve a message.
kindly note than text message is sms text message, while imessage is an instant messaging service and thats why it uses internet.
All instant messaging apps and services like iMessage, whatsapp, viber, facebook messenger, Signal, Skype, etc uses internet. without internet these apps will never work as internet is a must and very compulsory.
Being an instant messaging service, it has a delivery report and a read recapt which is lacking in sms text messages.
Since ios 16, you can edit and unsend an imessage, this feature is not available for sms text message.
Is imessage for iphone only
So far iMessage is only for Apple device like the ipad, iphone, mac and the apple watch.
You can’t use imessage on android as imessage is not supported on android. On android, you have the rcs chat message which is similar to imessage and has almost imessage features except the option to edit a message and unsend a message.
Asking is there an advantage of using imessage, kindly note that message is very economical and has the option to insend a sent message on iphone, ipad, Mac or the apple watch.
As long as you’re using an iphone and the recipient is using an iPhone as well, iMessage is simply the best to use for messaging. And with this, i come to the conclusion of what are the pros and cons of using iMessage.
