Trying to see someone’s location on your iphone, be it a family member or friend, and what you saw is Not sharing location.

And when this happens you can’t seem to see the person’s location on your iphone.

What could be the problem and why are you seeing not sharing location when tracking the person on your iphone.

And this leads us to the question of the day.

What does not sharing location on iPhone mean?

Not sharing location means that the person has stopped sharing location with you, or maybe the person’s location services is turned off or share my location is disabled on the persons iphone.

These are the reasons why iphone location sharing will say not sharing location.

I will explain them one after the other.

1.1. when the person has stopped sharing location with you

Since the release of ios 15.6, you will no longer be notified if someone stopped sharing location with you. Previously, You get notified when someone stopped sharing location with youas you will get notified on imessage.

However, that has stopped as you will no Ionger get notified when someone stopped sharing Iocation with you.

In this type of situation the only way you will know is when you try to check the person’s location and instead of seeing the person current location, you saw Not sharing location on find my app or find my friends.

It is a strong indication that the person might have stipped shaving location with you.

But you need to confirm it before coming into a conclusion.

And that is by simply using iMessage

When you share location with someone on iphone, the person can see your location using iMessage, as iMessage location map will be displayed on your profile in the person’s phone.

Now, immediately you stopped sharing your location with the person on your iphone, the imessage location map will disappear from your profile on the person’s phone.

Once iMessage Iocation map is no longer showing, it simply means the other person has stopped sharing location with you.

So through imessage location map you will know if someon eis still sharing location with you or not.

Below is a typical example of what im talking about.

iMessage location

The above picture is a typical example of when someone is sharing location with you on iPhone.

Right on the person’s profile you will see a map and which will indicate or showcase the person’s current location if available.

On the other hand, below is another example of when someone is not sharing location with you or has stopped sharing location with you.

not sharing location

As you can see, there’s no map on the above picture which indicates that the person is not sharing location.

If you are still sharing location with the person, please go ahead and tap on the Stop Sharing My Location button because the person will still be able to see your location irrespective of the fact that he or she has stopped sharing location with you.

1.2. When location services is turned off

Location services

Location Services not being available will also cause not sharing  location on iPhone to happen.

This is caused when the person purposely turned off location services on his or her iphone so as to prevent people from tracking or seeing her current location.

When this happens, if you try to check or see the person’s location on find my app, it will show Not sharing location.

This is because find my app was not able to get or track the person’s location as location services is turned off or disabled on the person’s iPhone or apple device.

If you go to iMessage to check the person’s location, you will see a map but it will show location not available.

The person didn’t stopped sharing location with you but indirectly prevented you from seeing his location by disabling location services on his iphone or apple device.

This is one of the effective ways of preventing someone from seeing your location on iphone if you don’t want to stop sharing location with the person.

kindly note that if you disable location services on your iPhone or other apple devices like the iPad or the apple watch, it will interfere with the map on your device as it will not be able to show your location on your device.

1.3. When Share my location is turned off

not sharing location

This is the third reason why someone’s location will show Not sharing location on iPhone or Find my app.

Once share my location is turned off on any apple device, you won’t be able to track the person on find my app or imessage as it will continue to show Not sharing location.

For you to be able to see someone’s location on iphone or any other apple device, Share my location and location services must be enabled and active.

If they are disabled, then you should forget about it as long as location sharing using find my app and iMessage is concerned.

You can’t track them until they enable location services and share my location on their phone or Apple device.

These are the reasons why you are seeing not sharing location when tracking someone on find my app.

not sharing location online

not sharing location online

Not sharing location online simply means that the person is no longer sharing location with but the person’s phone has an active internet connection as find my app is active on the person’s Apple device.

You will see this when location services is turned off or share my location is disabled on the other person’s device, but find my app is active along with an active internet connection.

Most times you will try to track someone on your iPhone or iPad and what you will see is not sharing location online.

Kindly note that this will happen if the person’s find my app or find my friends is active and which the person has an active internet connection.

In this type of situation you should know that the person is truly hiding his or her location and same time checking other people’s location as find my app is active on the other person’s device.

You know sometimes, if a person’s phone is switched off, offline, or has no active internet connection, find my app will show No location found or not sharing location but you won’t see online.

In some way this shows that the person may not be hiding his location but rather the recipient’s device is not active thereby preventing location services and share my location not to be active and available.

But on the other hand, if it shows not sharing location online, then you should know that the person’s phone is active with an internet connection including find my app.

I will advise you to go to iMessage to see if you will see a iMessage map on the contacts profile.

If the answer is yes, then you should know that the person didn’t stop sharing location with you but rather disabled location services or location sharing on his or her device.

If the answer is no, then it means the person has stopped sharing location with you.

I advise you to go ahead and do the same.

If someone decides not to show case his location, then I don’t see the reason to allow such person see your location. Please you shouldn’t allow such person to see your location as well.

How do I know if someone can see my location on iPhone?

As long as you have location services and share my location active on your iPhone, someone will be able to see your location especially if you’re sharing location with them.

Once you are sharing location with someone on your iPhone or any other apple device, bear in mind that they will see your location once you have location services and share my location enabled on your iPhone, iPad, Mac or the Apple.

Mind you, I’m talking about the legal way of tracking someone on iPhone.

However, as long as location services is turned on and which you have an active internet connection on your iPhone, you will be tracked legally or illegally.

But the truth is that you cannot tell if someone is illegally tracking your iPhone because it doesn’t show it at all.

Even if you’re sharing location with someone on your iPhone and the person start to track your location, still it won’t show that you’re being tracked on Find My app, iMessage or on your iPhone in general.
