Is Gmail and Apple ID the same? That’s the question we’ll be tackling right on this post as I noticed that there are quite number of persons that do confuse Google ID or the Gmail with apple ID.
On iPhone, you can use use Gmail account as your apple ID and likewise any other email address.
Let’s jump in straight to the question being asked on;
Is Gmail and Apple ID the same?
The answer is no. Gmail and Apple ID are not the same as Gmail account is strictly for Google products or apps, while Apple ID is for Apple products.
The fun part is that you can use google account or Gmail account as your apple ID as Apple ID requires an email address. You can use Gmail address, yahoo email address, or any other email address.
For the fact that you used your Gmail address for your apple ID doesn’t necessarily mean that Gmail and Apple ID are same, definitely not the case.

The Gmail address is an email address offered by Google which can be used to access all Google products like the Google play services, Google play store, Google drive, Google map, Google note, YouTube, YouTube music, Google photos, etc.
As long as you want to access any Google products on your android phone or iPhone, you must have a Google account. Creating a Google account will be through the Gmail website or the app itself.
Creating a Gmail account
First you should download the Gmail app on your iPhone and open the app.
Tap on create account and select For Myself or To manage my business. Enter your first name and last name and tap on the next button.
On the next screen enter your date of birth and select your gender. Next is to enter your preferred gmail address and password and finish up the Gmail account creation.
After you must have finished creating your Gmail account, you can use the Gmail address as your apple ID. For example, I’m using my Gmail address as my Apple ID and I haven’t had any issue with that.
Apple ID
On the other hand, Apple ID is an apple account which is used to access all Apple products like the map, iMessage, iCloud, Apple TV, App store, Apple music or the iTunes, etc.
Upon creating an Apple ID, you can use a gmail account or Gmail address and it will work as it requires an email address and password.
Right now you have seen the answer to the question being asked “Is Gmail and Apple ID the same?” once again the answer is no as gmail is for google products while Apple ID is for Apple products.
How to create a new apple ID
To create a new apple id on your device;
- Click “Forgot password or don’t have an Apple ID”.
- Tap Create a Free Apple ID.
- Select your birthday and enter your name. Tap Next.
- Tap “Use your current email address”, or tap “Get a free iCloud email address.”
- When prompted, follow the onscreen steps to verify your email address and set up two-factor authentication. If you choose to skip this step, you’ll be prompted to do this later in Settings.
Create an Apple ID using the App Store on your device
- Open the App Store and tap the sign-in button.
- Tap Create New Apple ID. If you don’t see this option, make sure that you’re signed out of iCloud
- Follow the onscreen steps. The email address that you provide will be your new Apple ID.
- Enter your credit card and billing information, then tap Next. You can also choose None.
- Confirm your phone number. This can help to verify your identity and recover your account if needed. Tap Next
- Check your email for a verification email from Apple and verify your email address.
After you verify your email address, you can use your Apple ID to sign in to the iTunes Store, App Store, and other Apple services such as iCloud.
Create an Apple ID on the web
- Go to appleid.apple.com and click Create Your Apple ID.
- Follow the onscreen steps. The email address that you provide will be your new Apple ID.*
- Enter a phone number that you can always access.
- Check the boxes to subscribe to Apple Updates if you’d like. This keeps you up to date on the latest news, software, products, and services from Apple.
- Click Continue.
- Follow the onscreen steps to verify your email address and phone number.
Can I use my Gmail account as Apple ID?
Yes you can use your Gmail account as your Apple ID and it will work. Apple ID requires an email address and a password and amh email address will definitely work even the likes of yahoo mail.
Because of Gmail is Google some might think that it won’t work for Apple ID, but that is not the case. I used my Gmail account for my apple ID and this is now over seven years and I haven’t had any issue so far.
Can I use Gmail on iPhone?
Yes you can use Gmail on iPhone by simply downloading and installing the Gmail app from the app store. You can also use the safari browser or any other browser to sign into your Gmail account.
The Gmail app for ios works exactly just like it is on android with no difference between the two OS platforms.
You can download and install Gmail app on your iPhone. Remember, Gmail are free to use with no fee attached to it.
Do I need an email to create an Apple ID?
Yes you need am email to create an Apple ID as it is very compulsory. You cannot create an Apple ID without an email address and a password.
If you don’t have any email address, simply download and install the Gmail apple which I have attached the link above and from there create a new Gmail account.
Creating a Gmail account is free without any fee attached to it. Many people that are looking for a free email account now usually go for Gmail account or maybe the yahoo mail.
What is the difference between Apple ID and Google ID?
The difference between Apple ID and Google ID is that Google ID is used for Google products or apps, while Apple ID is used for Apple products or apps.
Like I said earlier on, you can’t access the Gmail app, Google app, drive, Google map, YouTube, YouTube music, Google photos, etc if you don’t have a Google account which is Gmail account. For you to access and use any of these listed Google products, you must have a Gmail account.
Also, you can’t access app store, iTunes, iMessage, iCloud, Apple TV, Facetime, etc if you don’t have an apple ID. You must have an apple ID in order to have access and use any of these Apple products.
Which email is best for Apple ID?
Any email address is best for apple ID be it Gmail, yahoo mail, outlook email address, etc. You can go for professional or paid email account or probably go for a free email account just like the Gmail and yahoo mail.
For the past seven years I have been using Gmail account for my apple ID and haven’t had any issues at all.
So you can go for Gmail account unless you don’t trust Google.
Is your Apple ID password the same as your email password?
The answer is no. Apple ID password is not the same as your email password unless you used your apple password as your email password as well.
Apple password is the password you entered when you created your apple ID. Creating an apple ID requires both email address and a password. So the password you entered during the account creating is your apple ID password.
In case you have forgotten your apple ID password, below is how to retrieve it.
On your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple Watch with watchOS 8 or later
- Go to Settings.
- Tap [your name] > Password & Security > Change Password.
- If you’re signed into iCloud and have a passcode enabled, you’ll be prompted to enter the passcode for your device.
- Follow the onscreen steps to update your password.
Using web to retrieve your apple ID password
- Go to iforgot.apple.com.
- Enter your Apple ID unless you have forgotten your apple ID as well and which is very weird.
- Select the option to reset your password, then choose Continue.
- Choose to answer your security questions, get an email, or enter your Recovery Key.
- Follow the onscreen steps to reset your password.
After you reset your password, you’ll be asked to sign in again with your new password.
Is Google password same as Apple password?
The answer is no. Google password is not the same as Apple password as Google password is for Google account while Apple password is for Apple products.
Is Gmail free on iPhone?
Yes Gmail is free on iPhone just like it is on android. As long as you signed up for a personal Gmail account or even a business Gmail account, you won’t pay any fee.
