Well the truth is that when it comes to voip services like facetime, Skype, Whatsapp, viber, telegram, etc, audio call will consume less data compared to video calls.

- Scroll down and below mobile data or cellular data and you will see facetime among the list.

However, in order to get the accurate data usage for a certain facetime call, you simply need to reset your data usage.
All you have to do is to open the settings app, scroll and open mobile data or cellular data, and scroll all the way down to Reset Statistics.
Tap on the reset statistics and it will reset your data usage.
Afterwards, you can go ahead and make a facetime call be it audio call or video call in order to get the accurate data usage of your facetime call.
Facetime using cellular data instead of Wi-Fi
All you need to do is to turn off your cellular data and facetime will use only wi-fi.
As long as you have an active Wi-Fi connection available on your phone, I don’t see the reason why you should turn on cellular data.
By default, facetime should use Wi-Fi and not cellular data when available, but sometimes this type of issue do occur.
Because if this and to avoid such from happening, it is recommended that you should turn off cellular data whenever you have an active Wi-Fi connection on your phone.
As long as cellular data is turned off, there’s no way facetime will be using cellular data instead of Wi-Fi on your iPhone.
How to make FaceTime use less data?
By default, facetime will use lots of data during a facetime call especially if it is a video call, but there are certain things you need to do to get the best out of facetime free call especially if you have a limited data plan.
Imagine a 3 hours facetime video call attracts a 1.14GB data, when you multiply it by number of days in a given month, you will see that you have spent a lot on facetime calls.
So below is how to make FaceTime use less data?
- By using Facetime Audio: If you want to make a long facetime call and you’re too conscious of you data, it is best to use facetime audio call in order to save data. Facetime audio call don’t consume lot’s of data just like the video call aspect of facetime.
- By using Wi-Fi: Wifi is the best means of using facetime as it is very economical compared to when using a cellular data. If you have a Wi-Fi connection around you, it is best to use it for your facetime video call.
