The answer is no. Google assistant don’t drain battery even when it is constantly used by an android user.
However, it drains battery on an android watch like the galaxy watch.
I always make use of the google assistant and I don’t believe that the feature do drain battery irrespective of the fact that it uses the internet.
Talking about the google assistant and does google assistant drain battery, when it comes to using the feature on an android phone or tablet, it doesn’t drain battery at all.
However, the case is quite different on android smartwatch.

So I have the Samsung watch and decided to do a test to see if truly the google assistant will drain my battery.

But when it comes to android phone and tablet, Google voice assistant don’t drain battery at all and this apply to all android device.

If you disable google assistant on android smartwatch, it helps to save battery.
Like I said on android smartwatch because Google assistant don’t drain battery on android phone and tablet irrespective of the fact that it uses internet to function.
I don’t see the reason or the need to disable google voice assistant on any android phone and tablet as it doesn’t drain battery. But on android smartwatch, you can disable the Google assistant.
It usually take a whole lot of battery even on the latest samsung watch 5.
From my experience, one of the ways to save battery on samsung galaxy watch is to turn off Wi-Fi and even bluetooth. The galaxy watch 4 was a total disaster when it comes to battery life especially if you have blue turned on.
The galaxy watch 5 battery life is quite good, but when you have both bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on, it will consume a lot of battery.
And without internet, you can’t use google voice assistant.
As long as you have an active internet connection on your android watch, it will drain the battery. And as Google voice assistant requires internet, and which it runs in the background, it helps to drain battery more on any given android smartwatch.
So if you’re not satisfied with the way the google voice assistant is draining your device battery, please go ahead and disable it.
Simply use it only on your android phone and tablet as it doesn’t drain battery on these two devices.

How to disable google assistant on android watch
Right now I’m using the galaxy watch for thir tutorial.
To disable google assistant on android watch;
- Open the Wearable app on your android phone or samsung phone.
- Tap on Watch Settings.
- Scroll down to Apps and tap to open the option.
- Right there you will see Google Assistant, tap on it.
- Look below and you will see a disable option, tap on it.
- And that’s it. Google voice assistant will be disabled on your Galaxy watch or android watch.

Get started by opening the Wearable App on your android phone.
You will see the homescreen like the image below, tap on Watch Settings.
So you go ahead and tap on Watch Settings as shown in the above image. Now scroll down to Apps and tap to open the option.
Right there you will see Assistant, please tap on the option.
Now look at the bottom of your screen and you will see Disable, please go ahead and tap on the option.
And that’s it. The google assistant app will be disabled on your android watch or Galaxy watch.
Aside from disabling the app on your watch, you can choose to turn it off. But for me, I don’t see the need to have the google voice assistant installed on my Galaxy watch since I have it on my samsung phone along with Bixby.
Is Google Assistant always on?
Yes, Google assistant is always on once you enable it on your device.
Google assistant is built in such a way that it runs in the background, and it is always active as long as your device is switched on.
