FaceTime is one of the best features on Apple device as you can easily call someone abroad using Facebook just like any other instant messaging apps and services.
As facetime is being used to reach out to people using the call feature, one will ask does facetime charge long distance especially if it involves an international call.
Right in this article I will explain what is involved when it comes to long distance calls on Facetime, and whether you will be charged or probably not be charged.
Does facetime charge long distance?
The straight answer is no. Facetime don’t charge for a long distance call or an international call on both facetime video call or audio call.
However, this depends on your network carrier.
A network carrier may charge their subscribers some token when it comes to using facetime or any other instant messaging apps and services to make an audio call.
But I’m yet to see such network.
But talking about Apple facetime, you can make a long distance call or international call and be it audio or video and you will never be charged for a single minute or seconds.
The truth is that when it comes to long distance calls or international calls, people now use the likes of facetime, whatsapp, Skype, messenger, telegram, viber, etc to make these calls simply because they don’t use minutes but rather they use data.
There’s no doubt that they are very economical compared to cellular calls that comes from network service providers.
For the fact that the likes of facetime, whatsapp, Skype, Facebook messenger, telegram, Viber, Google voice, etc uses internet, they are relatively cost effective and the best means of making a long distance calls or international calls.
Using facetime for a long distance call
Right now, you can use FaceTime to call someone using an android phone, and which makes it a lot better.
This comes in handy if the person you want to call is living abroad and uses an android phone and not an iPhone.
For Facetime call to some using an iPhone, iPad or Mac, all you need to do is to get the person’s facetime phone number or Apple ID.
If the person traveled abroad and has no phone number, then you should use the person’s apple if for the facetime call. There’s no any other requirement needed other than the recipient phone number or Apple ID.
For Facetime call to some using an android phone, all you have to do is to create a facetime link to initiate a call, and send it to the android user.
Once the person tap on the link, the call will start.
To get started, open your FaceTime app and you will see create link as shown below.
Kindly tap on the Create Link button.
Next you will see FaceTime link and below it says Add name, go ahead and tap on the button.
Next is to give the a name to link and tap on the copy link button.
Also, instead of copying the link, you can look for the person’s contact among the options presented on your phone screen and directly send it the person.
After sending it to the person, he or she will receive it.
Now it is left for the person to tap and open the link.
What the person will see is to enter her name in order to join the conversation.
Enter a name and hit on the Continue button.
Lastly is to hit on the join button in order to join on the facetime call using your android phone or tablet.
For the iPhone user, you’re to accept the request from the Android user to join in the conversation.
Wait for a few seconds or a minute and it will connect.
And that’s it. You’re good to go.
Remember, if you’re using the Chinese version of iPhone, you won’t be able to create a link simply because it doesn’t support it.
Very painful and annoying.
Also, iPhone Chinese version don’t support facetime audio except for video. As long as you have iPhone Chinese version, know that you won’t be able to call someone using an android on FaceTime.

Is FaceTime charged as a call or data?
FaceTime is not charged as a call but rather charged as data simply because it uses internet.
Kindly note that facetime is never charged as minutes or call simply because it is not of a cellular call but rather as an instant messaging service.
Being an instant messaging service, what is required is an active internet connection which can be a Wi-Fi or a cellular data.
Through Wi-Fi or a cellular data, you can make and receive facetime calls from your iPhone, iPad or Mac.
Because it uses internet like Wi-Fi or cellular data, you won’t be charged for facetime calls even when it comes to international facetime calls.
If you have an active Wi-Fi connection, that is just the best because you’re completely using facetime for free.
If you don’t have an active Wi-Fi connection, then the only option you have is to use a cellular data which will require you to subscribe to a data plan.
How much data is a 1 hour FaceTime call?
A facetime video call of 1 hour will consume a 180mb to 200mb data depending on the internet speed and network.
However, a facetime audio call will consume a data of 40mb per 1 hour from my experience.
If you’re using a 5G network, facetime video and audio call data consumption will be high compared to 4G or 3G networks.
This is what I noticed though 5G network is a lot faster and smoother on FaceTime video and audio call.
How much does FaceTime cost per minute?
Kindly note that facetime don’t use minute but rather it uses data.
As it uses data, there’s nothing like cost per minute but rather data consumption per minute.
So in this very aspect, facetime consumes 3mb per a minute call on FaceTime video call.
Once the other hand, facetime audio call consumes a data of 778kbs per a minute call.
How long does 1GB last on FaceTime?
A 1GB data will last for a good 6 hours on FaceTime video.
As facetime video call consumes 180mb to 200mb per an hour, then 1GB should go close to six hours or five and half hours depending on the network frequency and speed.
For facetime audio call, expect a 1GB data to last for up to 12 hours or more.
If you’re data conscious, there’s nothing to worry if what you have is a data plan of 1GB as it will be enough for a good 6 hours facetime video call.
Is FaceTime free over Wi-Fi?
FaceTime over Wi-Fi is free as long as you have an active Wi-Fi connection around you.
One of the best ways to enjoy facetime or internet general is to have an active Wi-Fi connection.
As facetime video call seemed to consume a lot of data, it shouldn’t bother you at all if you’re using a free Wi-Fi or paid Wi-Fi connection.
How can I FaceTime without using data?
The only way to use FaceTime without data is by using a Wi-Fi connection.
As long as facetime is involved, it requires internet and if you don’t have an active internet connection on your iPhone, iPad, or any other Apple device, you can’t use FaceTime.
Whej it comes to having an internet, the only option we have is Wi-Fi or cellular data.
If you don’t fancy using a cellular data, then the only option you have is to use a Wi-Fi connection if available. If there’s no Wi-Fi then you don’t have any other option than cellular data.
Is FaceTime calling free internationally?
The answer is yes. Facetime calling is free internationally irrespective of your location and the network you’re using.
This same goes to the question of facetime international charges t mobile, as T-Mobile don’t have any charges for facetime international calls.
Lastly before I go, does facetime charge long distance? The straight answer is no. Facetime don’t charge for a long distance call or an international call on both facetime video call or audio call.
