So you’re looking for how to connect an airtag to a different phone and I must say this is very much possible but first, it is the owner of the AirTag will have to do the job.

1.Connect the other phone with the AirTag apple ID and password
One of the ways to connect an airtag to a different phone is to use the airtag apple ID on the other phone.
Now listen, if you have multiple devices linked with one apple ID, once you connect your airtag to any of the phone or device, it will automatically be connected to the other devices.
The Apple airtag works with apple ID so all devices connected to this very airtag apple ID, can have access to the AirTag.

2. Add the other phone to your apple airtag
This option will be made available from ios 17 and iPadOS 17 update.
To be able to tear this feature, I enrolled for ios 17 beta version, and was able to add other devices to my airtag. However, the other devices must be on ios 17 as well.
In the next two to three months we’ll receive the official ios 17 version, and which you can add multiple devices to your airtag.
But let me show you how it works using the ios 17 beta version.
So all you need to do is to open Find My on your iPhone, and tap on Items.
Right there you will see your airtag, kindly tap on your apple airtag. Now scroll down a little and you will see Share This AirTag option. Below it you will see Add Person as shown below.
If you tap on Add Person, on the next screen tap on the Continue Button, and select the contact you want to add to your airtag. If you see contacts written in blue color, it signify that is eligible.
That is you can share your airtag with the contact.
For example below.
So you go ahead and select the contact and tap on SHARE at the top right corner.
It will notify the other person that you want to share AirTag location with the person, and it is left for the person to accept the request or not accept the request.
So once the person has accepted the request, the contact can view your airtag from any given location. Remember, you can also remove the contact from your airtag location sharing.
So far I don’t know the number of devices you can add to your airtag until apple release the final and official ios and iPadOS 17 update.
When talking about how to connect an airtag to a different phone, you simply need to use the Add Person option to add multiple devices to your iPad.

3. Remove the AirTag and pair it with the other phone
The third option is to remove your phone from the AirTag. Once you remove the phone from airtag, you can pair another phone to the AirTag.
It’s not hard to remove the AirTag from your phone, simply open Find My >> tap on Items >> select your airtag by tapping on it >> scroll down until you see Remove Item.

Once you have removed the AirTag from your phone, then you can pair the AirTag to another phone. So this is another method to connect an airtag to a different phone.

Once an airtag is paired or linked to a phone or apple ID, it is the owner that will unpair or remove the AirTag from the phone and Apple ID.
So incase you happen to see a random apple airtag on the floor or anywhere, simply help the owner to retrieve the lost airtag.
