The answer is no. Someone else cannot track your airtag unless you added the person to your airtag location, or your airtag is moving with the person.
When it comes to using the Apple airtag, there are certain things that you should know, and they are;

- An unknown airtag moving with someone can be tracked by the person after apple must have notified the person about the AirTag.

1. Apple airtag is connected to a single apple ID
As the rule goes, Apple airtag is connected to a single apple ID, and cannot be connected to multiple Apple IDs.
Once an airtag is paired with an iPhone and an apple is connected or linked to the AirTag, that’s the final. You cannot link multiple apple IDs to a single apple airtag.
Even if someone happens to find your apple airtag, reset the airtag, the person will not be able to link the AirTag to his phone.
You can link an airtag to another phone only if the owner of the AirTag removed the AirTag from his phone. And this is the reason I states that Apple airtags are only linked or connected to a single apple ID.

2. When an unknown airtag is moving with someone
Since the recent airtag update or firmware, Apple has made it possible for someone to know that they are being tracked.
If an airtag is away from the connected phone over a long period of time usually after 8 hours, the AirTag will start beeping.
Now if someone is using an airtag to track you, Apple will notify you that an unknown airtag is moving with you. Apple made this feature available as it became quite popular using the AirTag to track people without their consent.
So right now if you have an iphone with you, especially from iphone 11 series and above, Apple will notify on your iPhone screen that an airtag is moving with you, and which apple will display the distance you moved with the AirTag on the map.
In this type of situation, the person can track the AirTag using the Find Nearby option shown in the above picture.
Using the Find Nearby option, the person can track and locate the AirTag, and even play sound to easily locate the AirTag.
Going back to the question of can someone else track my airtag, in this type of scenario the answer is yes because apple has given the permission for the person to track the unknown airtag detected or moving with the person.

So far I don’t know the maximum limit, but the truth is that you can now share airtag location with family members and friends.

Can other people detect my AirTag?
Yes, someone else can detect your airtag if the AirTag has been moving with the person.
Due to the number of cases of people using the AirTag to track people instead of valuable items, Apple has made it possible for iphone users to detect when an airtag is moving with them.
So if you try to track someone using the Apple airtag, bear in mind that the person will find out even if you removed sound from the AirTag.
Mind you, this applies to this very question can an iPhone detect someone else’s AirTag? Yes, it will, especially if you’re tracking someone with an airtag.
Can the owner of an AirTag see my location?
Yes, if someone is tracking you with an airtag or an airtag is moving with you, the owner of the AirTag will definitely see your location.
For the fact that you have an iPhone with you will make it lot easier for the person to track and see your current location, simply because the iPhone will help the AirTag to update to it’s current location.
So if you found out that you’re being tracked with an airtag, or probably an airtag is moving with you or detected near you, simply try and find the AirTag, and remove battery from the AirTag.
Once you have done that, the AirTag will be inactive.
If you don’t remove the battery, then you can throw the AirTag far distance away from your location.
