Since 2021, the Apple airtag has become really popular especially when it comes to tracking someone.
Yes you heard me though the main reason for airtags is to use it to track items, but now we use to track people. However, it is very wrong to track someone without the person’s consent.
So in today’s post we’ll looking at the question being asked, can more than one person track an airtag or multiple persons are allowed to track an airtag.
So let’s proceed with the answer.
Can more than one person track an airTag?
The answer is yes. More than one person can track an airtag as long as the owner is sharing the AirTag location with others.
However, this is only available if you’re running on ios 17 or iPadOS 17 version.
This is one of the updates apple introduced to the Apple airtag, being able to be tracked by multiple devices as long as the owner gave the consent by sharing the AirTag location with others.
From ios 16 versions below, multiple devices can’t track an apple airtag except for the owner of the AirTag. But that has changed since ios 17 and iPadOS 17.
Now let me show you how you can add more than one person to track an airtag.
Before we proceed, please make sure that your iPhone or iPad is running on ios 17 and iPadOS 17 respectively.

How to share airtag location with another phone
Below is how you can share AirTag location with another phone;
- Open the Find My on your iPhone or iPad.
- Navigate to Items and tap on the AirTag.
- Scroll down and you will see where it says Share this AirTag, tap on the option that says Add a Person.
- On the next window, tap on the continue button.
- Now go ahead and scroll down to the contact that you want to share your airtag with.
- Tap on the contact to select it, and hit on the Share Button.
- The recipient will see the notification on his iphone, and it is left for the recipient to accept the AirTag sharing.
Now let me explain this in details along with pictures based on the question of the day, can more than one person track an airtag.
Get started by opening the Find My on your iPhone or iPad.
On Find My homescreen or homepage, navigate to items and right there you will see your airtag(s).
Tap on your item(airtag), scroll down and you will see where it says Share This AirTag, and below it you will see Add Person.
Please go ahead and tap on Add person as shown below.
Tap on continue, and you will be presented with some of your contacts (those you call frequently or your recent calls). If you didn’t see the contact among the list of those presented to you, simply tap on the plus ➕ to see all your contacts.
If you care to check the picture above, you will see that one very contact is written in blue color, while others are Grey. This is because the contact written in blue color is running ios 17 and compatible with airtag, that is, i can share AirTag location with the contact.
So make sure that the contact you want to share AirTag location with on your iPhone or iPad is written in blue color.
Tap on the contact and you can select multiple contacts as well. When you’re done, tap on Share as shown below.
On your side you will see pending, as it will wait until the recipient accept your invitation.
On the recipient end, the recipient will receive a notification about the AirTag sharing. Find My will notify the recipient just like in the below attachment.
If the recipient opens Find My, the recipient will see the notification. So, it is left for the recipient to accept the AirTag location sharing or not.
Once the recipient added the AirTag, at your end it will change from Pending, to showing the people you’re sharing Airtag location with.
Now the other person can see or track your your airtag location on his Find My.
However, you can still remove the contact if you’re done sharing your airtag location with the very contact.
To do so, open the find my, navigate to item and tap on the AirTag.
Scroll down Share This Airtag, and tap on the person you want to remove. You will see the Remove button along with view contact, and cancel button.
Once you have done that, the person will be removed from your airtag location sharing. However, the person won’t be notified about it though the person will still know.
So asking can more than one person track an airtag, the answer is yes and it is available from ios 17 and iPadOS 17 update. You can share your airtag location with your friends and family with ease.
When you’re done, you can swiftly remove them from your airtag location sharing.
Can you link AirTag to two phones?
The answer is no. You can’t link two phones to one airtag but rather one phone can be linked to an airtag.
However, if you have multiple phones or apple devices and which they are connected to the same apple ID, you will see the AirTag on all the devices.
But from ios 17 update, you can connect multiple devices to your apple airtag by sharing your airtag location with these devices.
You will be the sole owner of the AirTag, and have the power to remove any contact from your apple airtag location sharing.
