In this article I will explain all you need to know when it comes to using the Apple airtag and if you can connect multiple phones to your airtag.
Before I proceed, I’m writing this post based on my experience using the latest ios 17 update (the beta version).
Can an airtag be connected to two phones?
Yes, airtag can be connected to two phones, and that is available from ios 17 update and above.
So Yes, you saw it clearly.
From ios 17 update, you can now share your airtag with multiple people or multiple phones. However, if your iPhone is running on ios 16.6 below, you can’t be able to share your airtag location with others or to your family members.
In order not to waste your time let me go ahead and show you how you can share or connect more than one phone to your airtag, and the benefits derived from it.

How to add airtag to second phone
To add AirTag to second phone, you simply have to open find my app, navigate to item, tap on the AirTag, and below share this airtag, tap on Add Person.
For a quick explanation, below is the method to add airtag to two phones;
- Open Find My app on your iPhone.
- Navigate to Items, and tap on your airtag.
- Below Share this Airtag, tap on Add person, and tap on the continue button.
- Scroll through your contact and select the contact you want to share airtag location with, and tap on SHARE.
- Wait until the person accept the request, and that’s it.

Get started by opening Find My app on your iPhone, navigate to Items and tap on your airtag.
As you tap on your airtag, you will see where it says Share This Airtag and below it you will see Add Person as shown below.
As you tap on Add Person, tap on the Continue button to accept to share your airtag, then you will be presented with your recent contacts.
However, you can tap on the plus ➕ icon to see all your contacts.
Now check to see if the contact you will you want to share location with is blue in color which indicates the number is registered with an apple ID.
So you tap on the number or the contact, and mind you, if the number is not in your contact list you can still enter the number or the Apple ID in the space provided for it.
Tap on the contact and hit on Share.
On your iPhone or Find My app, it will be on pending as shown in the picture below.
The person will receive a notification about the AirTag location sharing, and you have to wait until the person accept your request as shown below.
Right after the person must have accepted your invitation or request by adding your airtag location to find my app, you will see it on your screen as shown below.
So this is how to add airtag to two phones.
One thing I noticed is that if the other person phone is not running on ios 17 update, it will display that the person is not eligible to share airtag.
What this means is that if the person you’re trying to share airtag location with, is not on ios 17, the location sharing won’t work.
The person’s iPhone or iPad must be on ios 17 and iPadOS 17.

Second method
Second method to add airtag to two phones is by using the same apple ID on both phones.
As long as you are using the same apple ID on multiple phones, and which an airtag is connected to one of the phones, the AirTag will appear in all the phones.
So this is the second method to add airtag to second phone. Remember, Apple airtag works perfectly fine if you’re using iphone 11 series and above.
Can you connect an airtag to multiple Apple IDs?
No, you cannot an airtag to multiple except if you share your airtag with another apple ID.
Apple airtag is connected to a single apple ID and cannot be added to multiple Apple IDs.
However, you can connect apple airtag to multiple devices that has the same apple ID, or share your airtag location to multiple devices.
